Patrick Henry recognized that Britain wasn’t treating America as equal, and wanted to fight against it. He saw that war was unavoidable, and embraced it, rather than showing fear. His words “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!” are among the most memorable aspects of his lifetime. This information is useful to my project because it is his views, coming from his own words.

He also believed that battles weren`t decided on which side had other men, as braveness, vigilance, activity, and more also played a role. This information is important to my project because it shows how Patrick Henry believed that life wasn’t all about physical strength, but the mental game played a key role as well.

This website has an image of a portrait painted by George Matthews in 1883, which he copied from an 1815 portrait painted by Thomas Sully. Although it is a copy, it is almost exactly like the original version. This is important to my project as it gives me an insight as to what Patrick Henry looked like when he was still alive.

Patrick Henry was in favor of tax cuts. He also favored paper money being issued by the state to provide relief for debtors and small farmers. Nationalists, such as James Madison and George Washington opposed those ideas. This is important to my project because it shows that not all of Patrick Henry`s views were supported, but he still stuck with them.

His uncle and others also gave him religious sermons, which helped create his oratory style. Whenever preachers visited the area, he sometimes visited their services as well. This information is important to my project because it shows how Patrick Henry lived in his younger days while growing up.

Patrick Henry was born on May 29, 1736, in Hanover Country, Virginia. He died on June 6, 1799, at Red Hill Plantation, Virginia. He married a total of two women in his life, Sarah Shelton in 1754, and Dorothea Dandridge in 1777. This information is important to my project because it some insight on what Patrick Henry`s personal life was like.

He defended the persecuted baptist ministers Jeremiah Walker, John Walker, and John Williams, and saved them from being punished by the King of Britain. This is important for the project because it is the first time that many people recognized Patrick Henry`s genius.
